Default Trying to incude a bluff ($55)

Over the past couple of days I've been experimenting with checking the river when I have a good hand and a pseudo-scary card hits with the intention of calling any bet. This is along the lines of if I bet and they have nothing they will fold and I win nothing, but if they actually hit it, they get to take all my money, but if I give them a chance to bluff, I sometimes get to take more money from them. Unfortunately, I have been using it as more of a general strategy on the river, rather than really looking for places that villain might or might not call a straight river bet. Anyway, on to the action.

Villain was somewhat loose and somewhat aggressive preflop and had been a little tricky (check-raise flop) postflop.

Party Poker No-Limit Hold'em Tourney, Big Blind is t30 (9 handed) converter

AliasMrJones (t960)
UTG (t1060)
UTG+1 (t2045)
MP1 (t915)
MP2 (t1180)
MP3 (t110)
CO (t2185)
Button (t790)
SB (t755)

Preflop: AliasMrJones is BB with 8[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], 9[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img].
5 folds, CO raises to t60, Button calls t60, 1 fold, AliasMrJones calls t30.

Flop: (t195) A[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], 8[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], 9[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (3 players)
AliasMrJones checks, CO checks, Button checks.

Tried for check-raise, but it didn't work...

Turn: (t195) 5[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (3 players)
AliasMrJones bets t120, CO folds, Button calls t120.

...So I bet out the turn.

River: (t435) 5[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (2 players)

AliasMrJones checks, button goes all-in(610), AliasMrJones calls.

I thought an A or flush draw was more likely than a 5.

why would u call the river? why would u slowplay on this dangerous board? you ahve bottom 2 pair. its not that strong of a hand. lead at the pot. leading into the preflop raiser is the nuts. if he has an ace hes coming. if he has kings he might get pissed and come anyway. check raising is a poo diddly play. did i mention i fold the river? holla

oh, i didnt say what i would bet. itd be kidna fun to just open shove this flop, as AJ+ is probably coming. however.. i would bet around 150 and not even think about folding to anything, then shove the turn. holla

I didn't slowplay -- I tried for a check/raise. There is a big difference.

explain to me why you would even bother check raising here? do you want to give an ace the chance to fold? i just dont understand the reasoning behind it. holla
