Default The most amazing thing I\'ve ever experienced at a casino

So I'm at my usual game and I'm having an especially good night. For 3 hours or so, I'm sitting next to this guy who is incredibly nice, but is taking a massive beating. Combination of his own suckitude and some relatively tough beats. We're talking and having a good time. He rolls through 4 or 5 buyins and gets up to leave.

At this point, he turns to me sheepishly and says, "Hey man, I hate to ask you this, and I don't even know you, but I'm flat broke and I don't have any money to get home. I maxed out my daily ATM withdraw. I've seen you before here and I'm here all the time - do you think you can spot me until the next time I see you. I'm here almost every day. I'll get it to you then."

He's kinda disheveled looking and I'm absolutely hating the position I'm in. I have a mountain of chips in front of me and this guy that I've been talking to for hours can't get home. Against all better judgment and principles I've been using to defend myself against urban bums for my entire life, I spot this guy $100.

Next day - he's not there.
Same for the day after.
A week later I still haven't seen him in 5 trips.

About 10 days later, I'm walking into the room and before I even get to the brush, he comes running over and says "Thanks man, you really saved me the other night," and puts the money in my hand. Without counting or looking at it, I shove it in my pocket to save him any embarassment. I tell him its no problem, wish him good luck, and sit in my game.

Later, on the way home, I count it up. $1000. I wouldn't have even accepted it if I had counted. I don't think I've ever been more surprised in my entire life. Haven't seen him since.

Yep we have a guy that plays at one of the local rooms here, looks like hell warmed over, nasty, mean drunk type guy. Many a time I would like to have seen him get the boot, but was told by the floor that he was untouchable because he is a high stakes BJ player and dumps tens of thousands a week on BJ there...

Anyway one night I was donking a 3/6 table and tore him a new one for several hundred. We went back and forth, nasty type things. He gets up and leaves, and I figure it is time for break, he is outside and comes over and says "Best game of poker I have played here!" and we talk friendly for about 30mins.

He then prompts me for a loan for the taxi, I am like you reluctant but do it anyway... Long story short, he repaid the $50 I gave him with two purple chips about 6 weeks later...

Purple in California denominations ($25) or in denoms used on the East Coast among other places ($500)?

Just an offtopic question but why does california have to be different?

Reds are usually $5
Greens are usually $25
Blacks are usually $100

But in California, it's different, why is this?

Because everything in Cali is different! How else can you explain why someone would pay me $1.2 Million for a house I bought 7 years ago brand new for $390K??? If my wife was not so attached to this place (ie all her family here), I'd be really considering moving back to Atlanta or Florida I can buy my same house there with 10 times the lot size for about $400-600K in a similarily nice neighborhood and still have enough to put down on a nice lake house next my friend's on Lake Lanier

Yes, and you'd be tearing up those Florida $2/2 games, right?

Move to Vegas instead. Even though it's the "hot" housing market right now, it's still supposed to be cheaper than CA, and about the only place that most would consider an upgrade in poker terms.
