Just for fun. Any other good candidates, including College teams?

1. Utah Jazz

2. Minnesota Vikings

3. Los Angelas Lakers

4. Pittsburg Pirates

5. Calgary Flames

Well two of the teams had Minnesota connections, and you didn't pick on the U of M Gophers.

It also has to be pretty inspiring to be a Maryland Terrepin, (I hope I spelled that correctly) 'Lets go turtles'.

The University of Wisconsin - Eau Claire, couldn't pick a mascot, or even settle on a color, they are the 'Blugolds'.

I don't see how "Vikings" should be on the list...the name makes sense considering the large amount of Scandinavian immigrants that settled Minnesota.

Of course, the Jazz and Lakers are teams with names that made sense in their original cities, but no longer. Nevertheless, I am not sure they belong as truly terrible names, because there is good reason for their origins.

BTW: I would put on my list names such as "Heat," "Wild," etc. Further, any WNBA, Arena FBL, or NFL Europe names go on by default. Also, women college teams that insert "lady" before the name to designate it as a womens' team, ("Lady Longhorns") is pretty lame. Finally, U. of Hawaii was at one time the "Rainbow Warriors," I've always thought that was pretty lame.

Now for the best name: California Golden Bears.

University of Hawaii was officially the Rainbows, but it was changed after some stupid admin thing where they realized that the rainbow logo was associated with the gay community. dumb asses upstairs had a cow when they realized this, and inserted switched over to the generic "Warriors" from the longtime tradition.
as to the UC Berkeley Golden Bears: sure the logo is based on california traditions, but there've very little gold left in the state (financially as well as geologically) and no grizzlies have been seen in the state in decades. how great is that?
