Default Anyone with results from using Hotwire?

Especially in San Francisco and San Diego? I'll be visiting there with the wife in October and wouldn't mind saving a few bucks. As an example, there is a 3.5 star hotel avialable in the Union Square West part of downtown for $85 per night. The star rating aside, what are the odds I get stuck with a flop house and/or in a horrible part of the area?

Betterbidding.com is a good site for this kind of information. The hotel you see is The Adagio

I used it for San Francisco but it was like four years ago. I don't even remember where I stayed, but as I recall I got a good deal and was happy with the place.
