Default Turn bet puts me in a weird spot

And I can't win by checking.

Party Poker 5/10 Hold'em (6 max, 6 handed) converter

Preflop: Hero is BB with 4[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], J[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img].
1 fold, MP calls, 2 folds, SB completes, Hero checks.

Flop: (3 SB) 8[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], 9[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], T[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (3 players)
SB checks, Hero bets, MP calls, SB calls.

Turn: (3 BB) 2[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (3 players)
SB checks, Hero bets, MP calls, SB folds.

River: (5 BB) 2[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]
Hero ????

I don't think betting the turn here is profitable.

with no obligation to bet - easy check/fold as the pot would either be smaller (or the guy left behind you has taken control on the turn, meaning you're behind).

What I'm trying to say is this:

You bet and got called in two places with this rainbow board.

The pot is SMALL on the turn.

Check the turn with only one person left behind, and hope for the free card. If not, and MP bets behind you ...

(i) If SB calls, you have odds to call your draw
(ii) If SB folds, you don't have the pot odds to call, but counting implied odds, you probably have a neutral EV decision to call or fold.

Best case scenario is that you get your free card on the turn in this small pot.

The way this hand played out ... it's tough.. and that usually means that it's close to neutral EV no matter what you do.

There's a big part of me that says you take this pot down more than 1 in 6 by betting. So bet. But it's close.

You're not going to win this 1/5 times.

What about 1 in 6 times, though?

check the turn. Playing it like you did, I think a river bet is profitable.
