Example 1: Here the Villian has only $156 and there are no callers between us.
$200 NL party poker (10 players) Preflop: Hero is CO with 7[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], 7[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]. UTG - folds UTG+1($156) - raises to 10 UTG+2 - folds UTG+3 - folds UTG+4 - folds UTG+5 - folds HERO(CO)($200) - calls 10 BUTTON($70) - folds SB($200) - calls 10 BB($110) - folds Example 2: Here Villian only has $139 and I dont have position. $200 NL party poker (8 players) Preflop: Hero is UTG with 9[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], 9[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]. HERO (UTG)($200) - calls 2 UTG+1($61) - calls 2 UTG+2 - folds UTG+3($139) - raises to 12 CO - folds BUTTON - folds SB - folds BB - folds HERO (UTG) - calls 10 UTG+1($61) - folds Was it worth calling the 10 dollars in these hands? Should I consider the possible callers behind me as a good thing or a bad thing? They could make the pot multiway, or they could reraise and force me to fold preflop. If the villian had full $200 stacks, would these have been good calls? When is it worth it to call with a PP? |

hand 1 yes, hand 2 based on set drawing odds its too borderline. so player specifics should learn you toward calling or folding

Hand #1 - yes, position really helps there, plus his stack is big enough IMO. If you were UTG+2 or +3 or +4, I might fold depending on the table. CO is a good spot for your pp.
Hand #2 - marginal, borderline. I like to call here, but that may be a leak, not sure. His stack seems OK? OOP sux though. PS. What are people looking for in villian stack sizes here? If a guy has $32 these are easy folds. I usually look for a 10:1 ratio of stack size to bet?!? I know there's some rules and guidelines for these situations, and I admit, I am not for-sure for-sure what they are. Could someone educate me. |
