Default Early position

I was reading a book strictly about hold em. It says that when your in the early position (2) and the person on your right raises, you should never almost always fold or occasionaly re raise. If you do call, you need to be sure taht serveral other players are coming. Can someone tell me why this is? Thanks

Because the hands you'd call with are ones that thrive with multiway action and will be a big dog heads up.

There are very very very few hands you should ever "cold-call" preflop with (call more than 1 bet at at time).

You basically fold like 99.5% of hands and then of the remaining 0.5 they are all RE-raising hands (AA, KK, QQ, AKs, etc.).

AKo would be a cold calling hand if the player that raised is EXTREMELY tight. AQs/o is another potential cold calling candidate, but many people woudl advises reraising with them as well (especially if the bettor is loose).
