Default Renegade hair

Every once in a while I'll get a hair that seems to leap out way ahead of its peers.

It's happened since I was a kid and usually it's an eyebrow hair. Suddenly I'll have one long enough to stick me in the eye, half an inch or more. It's not like any of its buddies are kind of close and one just got more ahead than usual. One wild hair just is way longer, sometimes, two or three times the length of the others. If it doesn't happen overnight, which it seems to, it must happen over the course of just a couple or so days of huge growth spurts.

Any of our science guys know why one wild hair goes all hypertrophic suddenly?
