God Save The Queen!
God save our gracious Queen
Long live our noble Queen God save the Queen Send her victorious Happy and glorious Long to reign over us God save the Queen Those *superior* Brits. To think that God holds them in such high regard that HE would even consider saving them or their precious Queen. What is so damn special about the United Kingdom? God Bless America Land that I love Stand beside her and guide her Thru the night with a light from above From the mountains to the prairies To the oceans white with foam God bless America My home sweet home God bless America My home sweet home |

Re: God Save The Queen!
Is your point that Americans and British are equally egocentric?

Re: God Save The Queen!
Though the UK can easily compete with the US on patriotic songs etc , patrotism is in fact regarded with a lot morescepticism in the UK these days than in he US. People are particularly wary of flag waving, and the Union Jack has negative connotations for many people, as it was used extensively by the far right in the 70s and 80s.
Before anyone decides to start a fight about this can I reiterate I'm not British, and I don't have what could be called favourable opinions of how the UK is run or how it's behaved historically. There's a transcript here of a recent debate on patriotism at Oxford University for anyone who might be interested. http://www.orangeindex.co.uk/debates/oxford.html |
