I'm in the middle of a somewhat obscure book "With the Old Breed: At Peleliu and Okinawa" by Eugene B. Sledge, Paul Fussell (Introduction).

The book us an enlisted man's a first person account of the horrors of the battlefield for the Marines (and the Japanese) in Peleliu and Okinawa in the Pacific Theater of World War 2. IMO it deserves the praise it gets on Amazon. Here is a link.
