Default Mini-raise question in a 215

OK, I almost never mini-raise but reading this board got me thinking... It seems that a lot of the 215 players here respect a mini-raise more than a regular 3x raise, since mini-raises and flat calls so often mean concealed monsters. So if you get down to 5 players or so and you'd been raising 3x throughout, maybe you should throw in a mini-raise as a steal if you're up against good players? And if they call, maybe come back very hard, figuring that they might put you on a high pocket pair? Given all the posts here about not calling a mini-raise and worrying about a mini-raise, why would this be a bad play?

Thanks
