Can you move a fridge with an SUV?
Does anyone know if it is possible to fit a 18-21 cu feet fridge into the back of a Jeep Grande Cherokee or an similar SUV if you put the seats down and lay it on its back. I am moving saturday and buying one used and I am hoping to get it using a trailer.
Anybody have any ideas? |

Re: Can you move a fridge with an SUV?
You should fit a normal size fridge into a medium size SUV, but measuring first is obviously a good idea. Also, after you get it home you need to stand it upright and wait 24 hours to plug it in, letting all refrigerant inside of it settle down at the bottom.

I've moved two fridges in SUVs, but why would you post this instead of just measuring?

Re: Can you move a fridge with an SUV?
I wasn't worried about the size. I was worried about the damage of it riding on its side and not upright. Like he said wait 24 hours or so, I never heard that.
Thanks for the help. |

don't used refrigerators have liquid in them that prevents them from being transported on their sides?

Yes they install it after you get it from the store as a conspiracy to prevent you from moving it yourself.

Re: Can you move a fridge with an SUV?
I just bought a chest freezer to store meat and body parts in the garage. The instruction manual mentioned to not tip it past 45 degrees from upright if possible, but in case you had to put it on its side to wait 24 hours before operating it. I imagine the same would go for a fridge. Perhaps you should run this by the people at Sears or wherever, just to be safe.

Re: Can you move a fridge with an SUV?
i'd be surprised if it fit into a Tahoe, much less a midsized SUV...it's situations like this that make me glad I have a truck, and not glad that my friends don't
