Obviously in this one it was early and my thinking was this, the PF raiser is out, nobody fastplays a jack like that at a 5, everyone likes to slowplay, and on these paired boards, a lot of times the guy with the 4 or a small pocket pair thinks he's gods gift to mankind and overbets like that, so I'm ahead of 7's and down and A4, and behind to any jack or higher PP which seems unlikely since the PF raiser is gone and there wasn't a reraise on the min raise. Obviously once button calls I'm screwed but should I be worrying about a player behind me when a situation like this comes up? Should I even be playing 88 in a min raised pot?

90% of the time I reraise PF, I'm not sure why I didn't other than I don't like committing 100 or more chips PF very early like this without a high pocket pair, and I can't really push this...

I don't know I don't like committing another 125 chips just to see another card, and I figured with a scary as hell board out there, me having a ton of outs if I'm called that its a decent play. Again there's the consideration of the guy behind me but I think I get a fold from a typical player often enough to make this worth it?? Or am I way off here? Thanks all.

Bluff pushes are a losing proposition early in $5 tourneys, don't bother trying them. People will call you with marginal hands that are nonetheless better than yours. It's a hugely -$EV play.

You have to raise pf with AK.

i didnt really read any of it, i was sort of involved with south park....the part where it said should i even be involved in a miniraised pot with 88 was all that jumped out at me. i think this is one of the best times to play it (when the blinds are low) because the implied odds when u hit your set are pretty tasty. gl.

You can not bluff people off, even when they have weak hands.

You can bet large when you really hit your hand and get paid.

Listen to the Yugoslavian, he is giving you the best advice you can get right now. Don't get fancy at the 5's b/c it's donk-o-rama and your chit is gonna get called. Play solid poker. The best part of your play was not raising with AK in the second hand- do you see why? The worst part is pushing at rags when you have Ace high. AK in the early levels of a tourny can easily be your demise. I find limping with it through the first 3 levels works best for me (other players with different styles may disagree). If you limp and flop TPTK with it, most opponents won't give you credit for your hand and you can, at times, build a healthy stack. The problem with raising with it early (and especially at the lower levels) is that donkeys will call with a ton of garbage and it's very hard to push them of a hand. Then when you whiff the flop where does that leave you? A continuation bet may work, but it will also be chopping your stack and if you get reraised you have to fold you are then fighting an uphill battle.
Don't make moves (especially at the $5's!!), just play sound poker and the results will follow.

Playing the 5+1 on party means you are paying 20% rake which is a hell of a lot. In the early stages of the tournament, especially at the lower levels, it doesn't make sense to try to make plays. There are many players who are not very good who often "nuke" themselves. In my experience middle pairs are calling hands for unraised pots preflop and nothing more... you are lookin to hit a set. Tryin to make a play in the early stages of a tournament is not a good idea. Play solid until the late stages.
