I don't make the play PF but post flop I like where you were going with it. It is unlikely he has an ace because of the limp and you are representing one with your raise. Too bad your opponent is a calling station (or a donk slowplaying an Ace heads up) which negates everything I just said and makes this a terrible play.

Well he took a ton of time and dipped well into his timebank before deciding to call on the river with a 9 to beat me. He said "nice betting" afterwards, not sure if he thinks I'm ballsy for betting with a pair of 2s, or completely nuts.

Anyways, if I KNEW he had a 9, and faced a decision on the flop or the turn, what should I have done? I totally thought he might lay this down, but afterwards he told me that 2nd place was good enough at that point. So he called and I think he expected to lose.

Oh well.

After he called your bet on the flop, I think you can be quite sure your beaten, and check fold. He didnt call a little less of 1/2 his stack on the flop to fold the turn.
