Looking to evaluate my play

I have heard a lot of pros use notebooks to keep track of hands that they play for them to evaluate later. I'm looking to do this with my play in live tournaments and so I was wondering if anyone does this and how they keep track of their play i.e. do you just record the cards, or are you taking down all of the action and the final result. That seems like it would require a good deal of time so is there a quick system anyone uses to take it all down but not miss any of the action?
