Default Top set at Commerce 9/18

Game is nine-handed and rather loose-passive for now. Three limpers to me in the CO with 8 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]8 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], I raise. I fold the button but blinds call as do limpers. Six to the flop.

FLOP: 8 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]4 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]3 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (12 SBs)

Checked to me, I bet. I whisper to the Button, "I have top set. If I lose this hand, I'm going to s**t in my pants." Of course, this statement can only come after a couple of rather tough beats. Two callers to MP (fairly new to table. Pretty loose aggressive but plays well postflop. Something about him shows me trickiness, can't quite pin it down.) who check-raises. Two folds to me, I 3-bet. One more folder, one caller, MP caps. We call. Three to the turn.

TURN: 10x (12.5 BBs)

BB checks, MP checks, I bet. BB folds. MP calls. Headsup.

RIVER: Jx (14.5 BBs)

MP checks, I bet, MP check-raises. What the...??!! Options are to call or reraise.

he would probably raise JJ/TT preflop, and there's no way (i hope) that he capped Q9 or 97 on that flop.

i think you have to 3-bet this. he'll have 44/33 most often.

Easily agreed and I had my chips all ready to fire out 6 more red ones. However, should this unknown aggressive player had limped in with TT or JJ, I would hate to go to showdown when I could see it for two bets instead of four. On the surface, it looks more like J8 when he checked the turn without a raise, but the river seems more complicated than one would initially see.

Yes, but I excused myself from the table before doing so.

I make it 3 and start cursing if he caps. He's prolly got you on a big pair and made some crappy two pair (34s? perhaps?, 33, 44?)

Bad beat, I would've 3 bet too.

How is the 9/18 game there? I've heard that it's pretty loose, I've been trying to grind out a roll to play in it for a while.

Default RESULTS

I simply called after pondering a decision to raise for a little while. A gut instinct told me that he wouldn't go nuts on the river without something huge. As I said earlier, I wanted to see his cards for two bets and not for four. He chose to limp in with pocket jacks and takes the pot.

I was hoping to get more responses on this thread but I'm sure most of you would see it as I did, and would have popped him again because most players would raise pf with TT or JJ. However, he chose a great time to mix it up.
