Jeez, that is one of the freakiest things I've ever heard of in my life.
I'm amazed the guy could do it, especially without just getting his hand bitten off instantly. I just started a book by Jim Corbett about a leopard that killed and ate hundreds of people. This guy getting really pulled off an amazing feat.
