Default Question about Las Vegas

Hi,

friends of us want to visit Las Vegas in june. The do not play poker, actually hardly gamble at all. Wich hotel would you recommend for a rather low budget (about 40-80 bucks a night would be fine)

Thanks in advance

It depends on how the specials keep going. If you really want a cheap ass place that's on the strip you can try Westward Ho, Bourbon Street or a few others. If you have 2 or more people per room it gets even cheaper. I'm heading up in April for 4 days with a good friend and we are splitting a room at the Westward Ho - it's costing us $18 a night. The "Ho" is only $46 on the weekend nights during that time.

My wife and I went last summer and stayed at Bally's for $49 on thurs and like $69 or something on friday/saturday. The rate you get totally depends on what happens to be going on in town that week(end), how nice the joint is, and how the bookings are going. Find a hotel that you are interested in and keep watching the rates. You don't have to reserve the place until a couple weeks in advance (I don't think any place in Vegas is filling up consistently on 'off' weekends anymore) so try to wait it out to see if any special rates come up. You can always book and keep an eye on it and re-book if they offer a better rate. We did that our last trip when we stayed at the Mirage.

Anyway, you can check out www.cheapovegas.com for more info on hotels on and off the strip and some general info about each.

Have fun!

I would recommend the Orleans. It has everything for the non-gambler pool, spa, huge rooms, cheap, shuttle bus to Barbary Coast (although I recommend a car for $18/day), nice Buffet, restaurants, and for you a poker room that you can sneak down to any time of the nite. It also has tournaments everyday. June will probably average $60/day including weekends, weekdays are cheaper.

Good Luck

If you're coming to Vegas for the first time, I think you should stay on the Strip. Therefore, the Orleans wouldn't be an option for me since it's one mile west of the Strip.

Barbary Coast is the standard clean and cheap hotel with no frills.

Stay downtown, and for transportation, get a rental car or take the bus. I was in Vegas at the beginning of this month, and for four of the nights we stayed downtown at the Las Vegas Club. The first two nights (weekday) were $8.88 each (yes, 9 bucks!), and the second two nights (weekend) were $40 each. As long as all you are looking for is a place to sleep and to take a hot shower, this will be good.

Honestly, I don't see the point in staying on the strip. My next trip I plan to stay entirely off-strip.

Martin,

If you are taking people that want to see the glitz of Vegas you should stay at a hotel in the middle of the strip. My favorite is the Flamingo Hilton which goes for $55 a night on weekdays and $95 on weekends (you can visit the Flamingo online at www.flamingo.com). Last year in May I stayed at the Flamingo for $35 a night, so check their website for specials. You usually can get a good deal on this hotel through a travel agent when you buy your airfare. Others that are good to stay at are Bally's, Treasure Island, and Mirage. I used to recommend Harrah's but I've noticed a decline in the service and was disappointed the last time I stayed there. From any of these hotels you can walk, take a trolly bus, or regular bus (the public buses suck) to any end of the strip.

Good Luck

Mark

If you've never been to Vegas before then you definitely need to stay on the strip.

I stayed at Bally's back in October and was able to hear lots of street noise. So don't stay there unless you are a very sound sleeper.
