Default simple button progression question

I don't know if this pertains specifically to SNGs (I suspect it doesn't, but will try posting here).

My question is, if the current BB, say seat 3, gets eliminated, does the button move (from seat 1) to seat 2 with seat 4 being the BB (and no SB) for the next hand?

Does that follow up with the button on seat 4 with 5/6 as SB/BB (thus skipping the SB on 5), or does it follow with a dead button in seat 3 with 4/5 as SB/BB?

I know Partypoker does the former, but I just now noticed the wsop does the latter (recent PLO where Ferguson gets eliminated). I don't remember which Stars does.

Does anyone know what the standard is usually, or can explain this further?

Thanks.
