Default NYC Mass email

I just got this email, edited, by a club which I will keep nameless. Anyone have any idea if they are trying to make law here?

Dear Club Members
//ADDRESS DELETED//

There will be a meeting of all members of the
//CLUB NAME DELETED// on Friday evening June 17th
starting at 7pm. The //CLUB// has changed
never again pay to play poker or any other activity we
offer. ALL ACTIVITIES ARE FREE TO CLUB MEMBERS. Please
attend the meeting on Friday June 17th and receive
your free 6 month V.I.P. membership. We are new and
improved soon to offer Pool Tables, Ping Pong and
much much more . Come football season we will carry
all NFL games on our Direct TV sattilite system.

Its the only way they can theoretically continue to stay open within the law. However the definition of "promotion" of gambling has yet to be tested, so their theory could possibly fail. For instance providing chips in an organized manner may break they law. Time will tell.

PS: I know for a fact that they are not the only club considering this option.

This is exactly what the club in Dover, NJ was like. FYI: they no longer open their doors. Enjoy it while it lasts.

Try re-reading the OP. He specifically said "by a club which I will keep nameless". If he posted the clubs name, a ton of angry PMs would have rained down upon him because we all know not to discuss this openly without the club's permission.

I think there was sarcasm in the question given the number of emails many of us got (even though we have never stepped foot in the club).

Agree. This was one of the funniest reply-to-all clusterfvcks I've ever seen. And I used to play over there a lot. To think, I was almost the guy who set up their mailing list software - thankfully somebody else beat me to it.
