Comps for Playing Poker
Hi there,
I'm curious to know what sort of comps you get for playing poker at Casinos. I know it's not as heavily comped as slots or other table games. What are the best casinos in Atlantic City in terms of comps? Moo |

Re: Comps for Playing Poker
It can range from nothing to very little. Depends on the casino. With some new rooms opening in Vegas recently posters here have written about $1 an hour or so. Don't expect much, enjoy the free drinks and you will never be disappointed.
If its comps you want, play BJ for four hours and day at $25-100 a hand and pray you don't hit a bad streak. |

[/ QUOTE ] Assuming you average $60 bet(s) per hand, 2 hands per minute, and use basic strategy for a house edge of 0.5%, the Expected Value of your 4 hours of play would be a loss of $144 (not including tips). [I'm not sure whether the 2 hands per minute assumption is realistic.] What type/value of comps will this earn? |

Re: Comps for Playing Poker
not all AC poker rooms give comps to players. I'm sure the three large spots (Borg, Trop & Taj) do, but I know for a fact that Bally's and Harrah's do not (yet).
as for blackjack, the general rule of thumb is that you will get about 20% of your average flat bet returned to you in comps. if you assume basic strategy with AC rules is just under 0.5% house edge and you get dealt 60 hands an hour, then the comps are worth about 0.33%. the exception would be Harrah's and Showboat, where the Total Rewards program gives significantly less comps to table games in favor of slots and video poker. in the long run, VP offers the fastest way to earn comps with relatively low bankroll risk. you won't make any significant money playing, but you can "pay" for meals and hotel rooms easier with 25c JoB than you would playing BJ for $25 a hand. |

Just ask to be rated - and if your playing and the floor is in a good mood - you'll get food for sure and maybe a comped future visit. If your winnning - make it appear as if your losing |

Re: Comps for Playing Poker
Borgata, Trop and Taj offer comparable comps per hour. $.50 to $2 per hour based on the game. Taj and Borgata make it easier to get extra comps, as you just clock in when you sit down, and clock out whenever you choose..... at the Trop you only get rated as long as you have a seat at the table. Overall, Taj gives the most value in terms of comps

[/ QUOTE ] This is a HUGE overestimate. I used to be a BJ floor supervisor on the east coast. Here is how the comp system breaks out. up to 25$ avg bet: 10% comps on avg bet per hour. 10% x 25 = 2.50/hr. 26-100 avg bet gets 15% avg bet per hour. 100 x 15% = 15.00/hr Over 100 gets around 20% of average bet per hour. I'd love to find a casino that gives 40% avg bet per hour in comps. That's a little high though. Comps on table games are based on the house edge of the game. Therefore BJ and Bacc get the least comps, then dice is next. The highest will be roulette as that has around a 5.3% house edge. |

Re: Comps for Playing Poker
The Imperial Palace in Vegas comps $3/hour on their player's card. Does not matter what Limit or NL game you play.
VERY fishy place to play Gumbo |

Re: Comps for Poker
I conclude from your figures that a basic strategy blackjack player cannot realize a positive EV (with comps) playing with a house edge of around 0.5% Are there any BJ games in Vegas that have a much lower house edge following basic strategy? Any "Pontoon" games or other BJ variations like can be found at internet casinos?
