Default betting the river

Hero is in the cutoff in a 5/10 game at paradise
UTG limps ,a stong player in early limps,hero limps with J [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]J [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img],SB call BBraps
Flop is the lovely
6 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]3 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]J [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]
UTG checks stong player bets hero raises evryone folds.
turn is 4 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]
i bet stong player calls
river is 5 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]
hero gets cold feet and checks stong player gratefully checks and shows me 8 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]8 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]
should i give up poker for ballet?

Raise preflop. I smoothcall the flop the way you played it but it could be wrong. Bet this river, a strong player doesn't play a 3 or 7 in early position, the only hand I can see being played like this that beats you is 77.

I can't understand why you didn't raise that river. The preflop raiser is very unlikely to have 77 (well he actually had 88)

I don't know about the flop raise. You may want to fold SBs and BBs possible gutshots but on the other hand you have a monster with good redraws even against a made straight. I would probably have smooth called the flop and raised the turn if betted into again.

i agree that was an attractive option but with the two suited flop and a couple of rags i was hoping one of the blinds might reraise with two pair or an open ender

i personally don't consider JJ an automatic raise against two early limpers.as it happens i got no extra callers but when you flop a set the more the merrier.
