Default More questions about transfering $$ to and from casinos

There was a thread about this a while ago, but some things are still unclear to me.

What is involved in wiring money to a casino? Do you need to go to you bank in person or can it be done over the phone? How long does the transfer need to clear? Is there a fee for this?

Will the casino wire money back to your bank for you? Is there a minimum for such transfers?

Can anyone get a marker (casino credit) for chips?

Thanks in advance

The easiest thing (in my experience)is to get a bank check and fax a copy to them a day or two before you leave. When you get there, you bring them the check and they have precleared it. No wire fees or casino background checks.

I don't know how prevalent this is, but at some places you can apply for checkwriting privileges. Then, you write a check to the cage, and they give you money for it. At Barona they'll even hold your check for 24 hours and let you "buy it back".

Rubin covers the different methods in "Comp City". I believe the method Jason mentioned is in there too, as well as wiring, casino credit, etc.

Getting a marker is like applying for a loan or credit card. Anyone can apply and the casino will set a limit based on your credit worthiness/net worth (or deny you).

I am sure you have to go to bank and can't do a wire transfer over the phone (my bank works that way). Yes there is a fee probably around $15. If you wire in the morning, should get there same day. You will need all the specific information - routing numbers, etc - the casino needs to supply you with this if you are wiring to them - and you need to supply the info if casino can wire to you.

If you go the check writing privileges route as another option (see above post), make sure your check will go through. For some reason, my checks won't go through at my local casino. You probably can't verify this until you try it.

By marker, I meant cashing in chips at the end of the night and getting some kind of receipt for those chips in lieux of cash, so it wouldn't be like them extending me credit. I would like to be able to do that while I'm in Vegas for the WSOP so I don't have to constantly be carrying around cash.

Easy work. You deposit your money, check or wire when you get there, withdraw chips when you need them, and put them back in your account at the end of the day. Casinos do it all the time.

Most banks will let you do wire transfers over the phone once you go into the bank, set it up and get a password. I used to do a lot of wires but I didn't like the idea of doing it by phone so I always went in and signed the paper.

the last time i went to vegas i wired money to the cage at the bellagio. i sent the bellagio an email and got the info i needed to wire them the money and then was able to request a wire transfer with my bank online. i think my bank charged me $5 or $10 to do the transfer. i believe the transfer took less than a day.

at the bellagio i was able to go to the cage and withdraw chips against the money i had on deposit. at the end of my stay i brought the chips i had back to the cage along with the info to wire money back to my account and the bellagio made the transfer for no charge.

i dont know if there is a minimum for such transfers and the answer to some of your questions like fees/procedure will depend on your bank.
