Default Something else to consider about Daniel Negreanu

In addition to what David wrote, I think it is possible that many people have not considered the following:

Daniel may have been preparing for these matches for months/years (1 or 2 anyway). I think that, as David said, Daniel is WAY more sophisticated in his thinking than a lot of people give him credit for. Of course he is going to say "I'm probably not a favourite in these matches etc. etc." .

Is it not possible that for the last year, Daniel has been working incredibly hard on his heads up game, run the math simulations, worked on strategy, played on the net etc etc, then just come out and said "I just feel like gambling, so lets play" ?

My take on the really, really good players is that they pretend that the game isn't extremely mathematical, they don't talk about the math, the preparation etc, they just act as though they turn up and play. I think the really really good players are doing a lot of work behind the scenes.

In summary, I believe that Daniel is a decent favourite in ALL THESE MATCHES. I think he has been working his butt off in the background, waiting for the opportunity to take a lot of players for a lot of money.

i agree with your statement that he has been practicing hard for a while. without evidence of course.

i dont seriously believe DN would risk such a huge chunk of change on a long shot chance.

i dont think that he is a fave in all forthcoming matches, but i dont think hes as big a dog as anyone previously thought.

the association with the poker academy is really interesting, and i agree with the poster in that thread that it isnt that well known.

who knows how long he has been practicing for. how long has he been associated with the Wynn? perhaps its been longer than that.

ive never believed the "i had a feeling" sorta image he has projected for so long. i give him more credit than most - what you dont know, you cant judge.

I think he definitely uses the fact that some people don't give him the credit he deserves to his advantage. I wouldn't be surprised at all if he comes up a decent winner when the HU matches are all said and done.

Are you saying that you think DN is the best heads up player at every poker game? I don't think anyone will agree with this statement.

This is total BS. Daniel is doing this to obtain media attention for Wynn Casino, plain and simple. The money involved does not matter.

It's all about advertising, the Wynn is likely covering the money that Daniel is risking, because it's likely worth more to them in advertising value than the 100-500K cost of covering him.

DN has already said he is backing himself 100% on these matches and while he may have his faults everyone agrees he's very honest.

Alright, fair enough, but that does NOT mean he isn't receiving some form of kickback or deal for drumming up the extra advertising for Wynn Casino.

Daniel is no longer a poker player, he is a businessman. And while I applaud his success, and doing what's best for him, I no longer care for him as a person like I used to. He lost the humbleness/modestness that made him enjoyable to watch.

At least he isn't in Josh Arieh or Antonio Esfarianda territory yet, as far as attitudes go.

Actually the more I read at Antonio's site the more I dislike the guy. The more I read at Josh's site the harder I find it to dislike him as much. His blog is very down to earth and no bragging what so ever alot of times little poker content but just day to day living and stuff.
