Default Theoretical chip dumping

After witnessing an AQ vs AT vs AT all-in preflop on the first hand of a Step 2, I got to wondering if it's worth it to pay 3 times the buyin to start with 3 times the chips and two fewer opponents, with the same payout schedule. This can be considered for steps or for regular SNG's.

There's probably a way to calculate the optimal buy-in/chips/starting players ratios, but it's beyond me. Anyone have any clues?
