Default The average poker player online and offline

Doing a report for university, can anywone help with some of these questions?

Where are most of the players based?

What are their occupations?

Low, middle or big spenders?

What do they spend their money on?

How much do they spend online?

are they drinkers?

Basically what is your stereotypical punter?

I would answer these, but I believe I vary from what I would assume the average for this is. Well, I'll answer them as myself, and how my friends are.

Where are most of the players based? U.S.

What are their occupations? Varies too much to say, I would think.

Low, middle or big spenders? Low, but I would think the average gambler is more middle to big, but everyone I know who plays seriously spends very little in comparasin to what they are making.

What do they spend their money on? A certain hobby gets alot, but other random expenses are cut very dry.

How much do they spend online? Myself and most that I know do most shopping for everything online.

are they drinkers? For the most part, yes. Everyone seems to drink to celebrate huge nights or forget about a terrible one. Mediocre cards don't seem to merit drinking.

Where are most of the players based? - Milwaukee, WI

What are their occupations? - Self employed IT consultant

Low, middle or big spenders? - IDK, whats 'a lot'? I spend a lot, but I make a lot too. I'd say 'invest' more than 'spend'.

What do they spend their money on? - mortgage, kids, car, boat, motorcycle, tax, insurance, bills, computers, guitars/mixers/amps/speakers/studio equipment, car/home/pro audio, other toys.

How much do they spend online? - maybe 2-3% of my income.

are they drinkers? - definately, ya..

Well - I'm able to almost double the mortgage payment, and still afford to go out to a nice dinner with my wife. Just completed building a poker table, and will spend some funds sprucing up the garage into a poker room. A kegarater is on the list.

Oddly enough - I don't think I am the stereotypical gambler. I think the stereotype is a degenerate long time loser, bellied up to a poker table with a cigarette, jack on the rocks, and a pissed off attitude because the cards are stacked against him.

That ain't me.

What do they spend their money on? rent, food, P.O.T., beer, plane tickets,

Basically what is your stereotypical punter? You aren't going to find many punters here.

It prolly depends on level. I'd guess a large majority of people I play against are from US, UK, Scandinavia (in that order), either 18-25 and dreaming of boho glory, or 35-45 and playing for fun. Mostly university educated, but not to rocket scientist level. Older guys work in jacket and tie jobs, younger ones in student type jobs.

1. I'm based Near Chicagoland, A more broad answer to your question would be US and Europe?

2. I'm Employed in Management for a Very Large Corporation.
More Broadly I think Poker is not confired to occupational restrictions.

3. Poker Players have to tend to be on the slighty Big spender side, after all it is gambling. My self you can put me down on the slightly high side of middle. I dont get out of hand but I do like nice things.

4. What everyone spends it on, Neccesities and our hobbies, plus entertainment plus women. Especially the last one and that goes for everyone because if you married and you say you dont spend any money on women...your as stupid as she says you are.

5. If you mean by Online @ poker...I made an initail investment of $500. I wont guess what everyone else spends because I have no Idea If people who are not winning players continue to go to the well or what they do.

6. Would I consider myself a drinker, no, To old for that stuff, though I have been in the past and enjoy the occasional drink.
I think in the past you could be almost sure a poker player was a drinker but i think Poker has outgrown that.

Hope this helps.
