Default Push or hide my true nature?

Party Poker No-Limit Hold'em Tourney, Big Blind is t50 (10 handed) converter

MP1 (t920)
MP2 (t425)
MP3 (t795)
CO (t1545)
Button (t125)
SB (t450)
Hero (t785)
UTG (t1350)
UTG+1 (t860)
UTG+2 (t745)

Preflop: Hero is BB with 8[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], 8[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img].
UTG calls t50, 6 folds, Button calls t50, SB completes...Hero??

So...on the one hand, there's a nice juicy pot out there for the taking. On the other hand, shortie will almost certainly call & expose my LAG tendencies to the table. Do I lose too much FE by making this play? Or should I just take the profit?

PROFIT BITCH!

And to most of your opponents, 88 *is* a strong hand anyway...

Good point, they'll probably think I should have raised less to trap.

It seems to me like with such an overbet you could be in big trouble everytime you get called, or at best facing a coin flip against AK., and I would treat the UTG limp with care (weak or big pair or fish with AK)...

One nice LAG way to play it would be to raise say 200 to gain intiative and quiet possibly take it there. Then if he calls, look at the flop, if he checks and it looks nice (say only one overcard), push.

Either way an overpair would have you (unless you get a weak opponent to fold a scare card ), put here u can win an extra 200 more often than not, avoid more coinflip situations, and sometimes entice him to call with a big ace that missed.

The downside is obviously when u get reraised preflop by a hand that would have folded to the all in, but I can't think of many... AQ maybe

PS: Anyone limps to get a set at this stage?

Yeah, i think i would push. The s/s ought to call, but so what?

Figure you can race him, with a sweetened pot.

What i like most about these is if you lose, you dont lose much chips.

88 is a marginal hand doing this. JJ-TT and perhaps 99 I don't mind.

Pushing here is a move I don't make often enough. I really need to start doing this again.

Like your new avatar. It represents the confidence you need at the tables. (like having 5 cards against my 2!)

Thanks. It was between that and Clonie, and I decided nameless was better -- less to live up to.
