Pocket 6s Set versus potential flush?
Paradise Poker 0.25/0.50 Hold'em (9 handed) converter
Preflop: Hero is MP2 with 6[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], 6[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]. UTG calls, UTG+1 calls, 1 fold, Hero calls, MP3 calls, 2 folds, SB completes, BB raises, UTG calls, UTG+1 folds, Hero calls, MP3 calls, SB calls. Flop: (11 SB) 8[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], 6[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], K[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (5 players) SB checks, BB bets, UTG folds, Hero calls, MP3 calls, SB calls. Turn: (7.50 BB) 5[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (4 players) SB checks, BB bets, Hero raises, MP3 calls, SB folds, BB calls. River: (13.50 BB) A[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (3 players) BB checks, Hero bets, MP3 raises, BB folds, Hero calls. Final Pot: 17.50 BB Results in white below: Hero has 6s 6h (three of a kind, sixes). MP3 has 5s 5c (three of a kind, fives). Outcome: Hero wins 17.50 BB. (flop) I was tempted to re-raise the flop but knew full well that the people after me would fold, and the villain in this hand is the most likely person to lead out with a flush draw. Should I have wanted this pot to be heads up or multiway? (turn) standard? (river) Obviously worried about the flush, decided that given the betting in the hand, there very well could be someone hanging around in for the flush. Didn't consider folding given that my hand was still strong against many of the hands that would lead on an ace. This is my first hand I've posted for comments, and my general question is am I missing out on more BBs than its worth playing cautious? |

Re: Pocket 6s Set versus potential flush?
Raise the flop. I think you’re giving up way to much value by not raising here. Plus that's a draw ridden board. Raising the flop changes the turn. I'd call the river unless MP3 is really LAGy even then a 3 bet would be questionable given the action.

Re: Pocket 6s Set versus potential flush?
Raise the flop. Don't bother slowplaying sets in large pots on semi coordinated boards.
The river call is fine. You're usually risking 2 bets to gain 1 when you reraise this river. |

I raise the flop because you don't know whether or not you are going to have another chance to raise (it may get checked to you on the turn). The rest is standard.

Re: Pocket 6s Set versus potential flush?
*Grunching*
When you hit your set with that many people still in, you have to raise the flop. You will still get quite a few of them to come along with you, and if you've got someone out there with a flush draw, you may get lucky enough to have him go to war with you. You play small PP for their set value, and so in this instance when you hit you definitely want to get as much money in the pot as possible. Turn is fine, and as for the river, I think that you could three bet here, and be good often enough to make it worthwhile (although, I normally butcher situations like this often enough that my critique is worth what you pay for it ) |

Re: Pocket 6s Set versus potential flush?
When I see MP3 call two BB cold on the turn, that makes me think he would have called 2 BB cold on the flop as well.
Raise the flop. People will stick around on coordinated boards, and you want to push your equity edge. HU is the only time I'd consider a flop call and not a flop raise, waiting to raise the turn. |

Re: Pocket 6s Set versus potential flush?
I like a flop raise as well, for reasons already mentioned by others.

Re: Pocket 6s Set versus potential flush?
Put me in the raise the flop category as well.
What's the saying? I'd rather win a smaller pot than lose a big one? You're allowing people to stick around to draw by not raising. Chances are, enough of them will stick around anyway, but you're forcing them to make worse calls based on their odds. |
