Default General hold\'em question

Hello 2+2 posters, I am a newbie to the forum world. My name "VetranNewbie" describes myself in that I am vetran to the newbie world of poker. I have played for about three years with minimal success. I have a bankroll of $3k, so I have a little bit of starting ground. I was just going to consider playing 6max, but I have found that I am unable to find the "keys" to making consistent wins at shorthanded games. I'm looking for general advice on 6max vs. !0-handed HE. I do have pokertracker. Anyone have any good advice would be great to hear from everyone.

I think your name "VetranNewbie" also indicates that you have poor spelling...

but you'll get used to the smartasses...
