Calculating Equity
I have 8 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 7 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] and villain has Q [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] T [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]. The flop is:
K [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 6 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] J [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] PokerStove says my equity is 18.737%. I found 18.282% and can't for the life of me figure out where I went wrong. Here is what I did: Pair turn + safe river: (6/45)*(30/44) Blank turn + pair river: (17/45)*(6/44) Runner-runner 4/5 or 5/4: (8/45)*(4/44) 5/4 Turn + pair River: (8/45)*(6/44) Total: .182828 Where did I go wrong? Thanks, M |

Re: Calculating Equity
I haven't looked carefully at your calculations, but they seem inline with what is correct for a win. However, you are missing the 0.9% times that you tie (running 6,J for example). So, add half of your tie equity to your win equity to get your total equity.
18.3% + 0.45% is 18.75%, which is about what Pokerstove gives as your equity. -RMJ |

Re: Calculating Equity
If you're off by a tiny percentage from PokerStove than it's probably because you forgot to include some rare instance where you both end up playing the board and splitting the pot. In this case, it looks like if another J and 6 came then you would both have 2 pair (J's and 6's) with a K kicker.

Re: Calculating Equity
Sorry, I'm not trying to hi-jack this post, but where can I read or learn about calculating pot equity?

Re: Calculating Equity
Thanks for the replies guys---once I calculated the runner-runner J-6, it came out perfectly . When I had originally looked at the problem, I thought there was no way to split. Simple mistake.
Hollywood, you can learn right here in the probability forum. More aptly you can purchase Hold'em Odds by Petriv (I don't have it yet but it's THE book for all these kinds of things). You can get it here: http://www.gamblersbook.com/weblink....il/475401.html I learned from TOP, SSHE, 2+2, and getting PokerStove. M |
