Senator, bought by a coorporation, is trying to ban NOAA
http://www.palmbeachpost.com/news/co...a_wx_0421.html
Apparently for-pay weather companies (specifically Accuweather) have lobbied Senator Rick Santorum to introduce a bill to ban the National Weather Service from 'competing.' http://www.noaa.gov/ |

Re: Senator, bought by a coorporation, is trying to ban NOAA
This is all nothing new.
Just recently a bill was passed that will give credit cards companies billions at the expense of the consumer. The energy bill contains legislation to protect MBTE manufacturers from law suits for contaminating the water supply. The list is endless. Govt by the corporation for the corporation. Just as taught in civics classes. |

This is why congress shouldn't meddle in business in the first place. Regulation turns into a game where the corporation who donates the most gets to create an unfair playing field.
Abolish the FDA, the EPA, OSHA, HUD, the NEA, etc. etc. natedogg |

The point is that it is not the govt that should say so. Let the jury decide.

The point is that it is not the govt that should say so. Let the jury decide. [/ QUOTE ] I don't agree with this. It is completely within the government's purview to decide that certain industries should be exempt from damage claims becuase (a) what they do is risky and (b) the benefit that society derives from this risk is significant. So in order to continue industry X taking the particular risk in order to bring this benefit to society, the government allows them to escape claims for damages in certain instances. This is a legitimate governmental function. Of course, we can disagree as to whether the government's action in a particular instance -- such as MBTE -- is warranted. |
