Default Well, I finished READING \"The Cincinnati Kid\"...

You read right! The famous Poker movie was actually a book first!

The book is MUCH better than the movie, and from the standpoint of Poker players has an ending that isn't quite as depressing.

The book still contains those sily breaches of the rules, e.g., a player raising less than the bet, but the climactic scene, when Lancey Howard (Edward G. Robinson in the movie) ridiculously goes into his pocket for the ten $500 bills is handled much differently, and in a way that just might be justifiable if the rules are "bent" just a little.

I don't want to spoil it by giving the details, but it was a fun read.

Raising less than the bet used to be a pretty standard feature of poker. It was a way of capping it cheaply to protect draws...
