Default Dual Display Help - 2005FPW / Inspiron 8600

Hi everyone,
I got my 2005FPW today and was ready to start 8-tabling. It has a native resolution of 1680 x 1050. I also have a Dell Inspiron 8600 w/ a ATI Mobility Radeon 9600 Turbo. The Inspiron also has a native res of 1680 x 1050. Anyway, I hooked my laptop via VGA-out to the 2005FPW's VGA-in. I turned on the "Extend Desktop" option in Control Panel > Display > Settings. The extended desktop is working fine, all horizontal and nice. Now the problem is: The laptop keeps its native resolution of 1680 x 1050 BUT the 2005FPW LCD switches over to 1280 x 1024 (effectively eliminating table space) and I can't increase the setting to 1680 x 1050. It maxes out at 1280 x 1024 and its driving me crazy! Anyone?

It all depends on your video card as to how high the resolution can be set. It'd be easier to just get a dual monitor video card; it's easy to set the resolution on each monitor.

The card in my Inspiron 8600 is a ATI Mobility Radeon 8600 and can be set at a maximum resolution of 1680 x 1050. I just don't understand why it won't set at that resolution for my second display (2005FPW). The 2005FPW is fully capable of running 1680 x 1050 as it is its native resolution.

i had an almost identical problem - you need to uncheck the box for "follow DCI settings." this will allow you to increase the resolution back to what it should be. (this is under properties, display, advanced.) took me almost a week to find that, lol.
