Value bet this river?

I've been at the table with the villain in this hand for a while, he's basically an idiot, has reloaded a bunch of times and, like I said, is basically retarded. I wasn't sure whether or not to bet this river because a) if he was on a draw, it didn't hit, so I won't get any more money out of him, but b) if I bet this river, I thought it was doubtful that he'd call me without an ace, but of course, if he had called me down this far with a worse hand, he'd probably call a bet on the river.

So what are your thoughts?

Just check it through, IMO. Maybe it is lost value, and you have the read on villain, but I don't want to get pushed off my value bet by a crazy move or anything. For example, you don't want to bet full pot because it is a lot for him to call with a worse hand, but you don't want to bet a little which he might come over the top of, forcing you to fold.
