The two aren't always connected. I haven't had this problem, but a friend of mine had an issue where he had water in his cable line (it took the cable company quite some time to figure out what was going on). His internet was always getting DC'd, but his TV never lost it's signal.

It's not that they're not connected, but that internet service is going to require higher fidelity on the channel it uses than TV will. Phone service can be peachy while dsl signal is interrupted by all sorts of junk happening to phone lines.

when i went from dial-up to cable 3 years ago, i had my first problems ever. after a month of outtages, i switched to dsl and have NEVER had an interruption. ever.

i don't care if i am losing speed. the reliability of dsl over cable was not even close in my situation. i would rather have dial up than go back to cable.

I could not agree more. My experience with cable internet was equally sucky. And though I got cable at a discount rate b/c I live in married student housing at LSU, the disconnects with cable was costing me WAY too much money.
