Default 6 Handed or Full Ring?

This is my first post, but I have been lurking for about a month. I play 0.25/0.50 primarily at Ultimate Bet, and would like to hear any discussion regarding the game differences between 6 handed and 10 handed tables. I have dabbled at the short tables, and the action seems somewhat more straightforward compared to the full tables.

I am reading SSH and believe that my attitude toward the short tables may have been wrong. That is, I figure it costs less in blinds to play the full ring tables.

My limited observations lead me to believe the flaw in that logic is related to the appropriate starting hand selection that is necessary at a full table. The increased frequency of the blinds appears to reduce some of the more maniacal play.

I would appreciate any thoughts.
