Investing in China and Biotech

I want to invest in real estate but I don't have enough money yet so in the meantime I will put it into the stock market. I made a post a while ago asking how to invest in China and Ray Zee made a good post saying don't invest in companies based in China that is too risky and not how to get rich. He suggested an American company that does business in China. That is not as focused as I'd hoped though.

What are index stocks? I think that's what I want to invest in. I think biotech and China are really big thigns and will just get bigger (nanotechnology too). That's what I want to invest in any advice on how to go about investing in those things? Also any tax aspects of this I shoudl know about? Thanks

okay 2+2 is the only research tool i know how to use, since i got no responses i will just choose some random stuff to invest in

PGJ (on Amex) Powershares Golden Dragon Halter Fund. It invests in US companies that do business in China. I have some but it's fairly new and I can't really tell you too much about it.

What are index stocks?

There are ETF's for major indices (DIA, SPY, QQQQ),for countries (PGJ, FXI) and industries (BBH, IBB). Basiclly, ETF's are like mutual funds in composition but they trade like stocks.

There is no ETF for nanotechnology but there might be a fund.
