Default 7-2 o in BB

I never look at my hand while the BB until my turn to act.

UTG called. This player has only one possible hand, two high suited cards. Otherwise it would be a raise or fold.

UTG +1 raised. This player would often raise with two high suited cards.

three cold callers, these players would only cold call with high cards, probably suited, or with medium pairs, they would likely raise with high pairs.

The button and SB fold.

I am thinking that I want two low cards, and look at my hand which is 7-2 off. I know UTG would never raise in this situation so I am getting 11 to 1 odds. I decide to see the flop. $120 in the pot.

As expected, the flop is three low cards 8-4-2 rainbow. I check, UTG checks, UTG+1 bets. one limper calls and I decide to take one off, UTG calls. $160 in pot.

Turn is 8-6-4-2 still rainbow. I'm starting to like my hand. Check, check, UTG+1 bets, limper folds and I check-raise. UTG folds and UTG +1 calls.

River is Q-8-6-4-2. I check and UTG+1 turns over AK of diamonds. UTG complains he folded a Q.

My pair deuces win a $240 pot.

My main question is when do the pot odds justify calling a raise with 7-2. In this case, I had 11-1 with a good read on everyone else.

Ummm...Never. I think you need to stop playing "gut feeling poker" and learn how to play properly and with discipline. You seriously will be on the road to broke playing like you did.

Jeff,

So here's a situation for you: You're in the cutoff. You look down and see AK. The action's on you, and it's capped for 5 bets. Do you call or fold? Most people playing solid, disciplined poker would still call here, even though there's a 98% chance that all your cards are gone.

I'd agree, I still wouldn't call any raise w/ 2-7o, but "feel" is a VERY important part of the game. He had a read on his opponents and they turned out to be correct.

Anon,... I would not call in a capped pot with A,K any more than I would call a raise with 7,2 off. Also, in the hand under discussion, I don't want to "start to like my hand" on the turn with bottom pair and gutshot draw Yucky-poo. Ditch this loser before the flop, "read or no read". Babe.

Feel? Are you numb enough from 7 vodka martinis to call a PF raise with 72o? Sorry, not in my lifetime.

Actually...most people playing solid would muck AK for 5 bets cold in the cutoff. I agree that feel is somewhat important, but relying on it over playing fundamentally well will get you on the rail in no time flat.

Suckout?

As it turns out, I was ahead from the flop on. Based on my read of 10 high cards out of 20 already in opponents hands, the flop and turn were as expected.

I believed I was likely ahead except to a possible pocket pair. I had nine outs to beat a pocket pair.
