Default cali/vegas

say a man in his mid 20's was to move to cali and plays poker for a living. he plays mostly on-line, but being close to a cardroom is key. what is the most economical area this cat could live in that is close to a card room? whats a typical rent?

being 'safe'is of course key.

same question for vegas

Vegas is easy: basically anywhere.

Cali, the proximate/safe/affordable matrix is significantly more complex.

I live in Azusa, which is in east LA county. That whole area - West Covina, Glendora, San Dimas, Azusa - is pretty safe and it's 25 minutes from Commerce Casino (which is about the only place you'll want to play). It's a nice area that's out of the downtown LA feel, and housing isn't that bad either. We pay $1500/ mo for a 3bed/ 2.5 bath condo that's 1300ft2 and comes with a 2 car garage. You can get 2000ft2 houses for about 2k/mo.

Vegas housing will be a little cheaper, but I think you'll still be about 25 mins from anything on the strip. Plus, there's no beaches in Vegas.

i currently pay $1000 for a one bedroom 'in-law' type apartment with no garage (all utilitys though). its considered a bargain

how is the 20/40 at commerce?

The 20/40 and 40/80 games at Commerce are the best in the world to consistently play in.

You should be able to get a "nice", meaning better than decent, 1 bedroom within 15 mins of the Bellagio for under $700.

Also, I'd submit the Mirage 20-40 is better than the commerce 20-40, though the commerce 40-80 may well be the best game in the world.

The best place in the LA area is definitely the South Bay...Redondo Beach, Hermosa Beach, Manhattan Beach, something like that. You're not too far from the casinos if you time your driving to avoid rush hour, it's about as safe as it gets in LA, and you'll never find better weather anywhere on Earth.

A decent 1-bedroom shouldn't cost you more than $1200-1300 or so.

The bad thing about the area between manhattan/hermosa/etc and commerce is that rush hour lasts from 9am to 9pm
