Poker Pot Odds beginner... help??

Hello,

I'm just learning how to use pot odds in my poker play. Are there any websites or sources that have any kinds of "Odds" exercises, particularly with explanations of the math? Thanks for any help provided.

i recomend buying winning low limit holdem. it was the first book i read on pot odds and it explains it pretty good. i would help you out but im afraid of saying something wrong and damaging your game.

Let's play the coin toss game.

- On heads, I give you 2 bucks.
- On tails, you give me 1 buck.

You have an even shot, 1 to 1, at winning a pot that pays 2 to 1. So of course you'll always play this game with me since you're the one making out in the end.

In poker, say your opponent bets $10 on the turn making a total pot of $50.

The pot's laying $50 to your $10 if you call, or 5 to 1. Imagine you have a four-flush. The odds against hitting your flush on the river are 4 to 1.

This is a case in poker where, like the coin toss example, you always want to take this bet, since the pot's big enough when you win to make up for the times you lose.

Now imagine that your opponent bets $10 on the turn making a $30 pot. The pot's laying $30 to $10, or 3 to 1. Now your 4 to 1 flush draw doesn't look so good since the pot won't pay you enough to make up for the times you lose.
