99 in SB hits trips - thoughts?
Was this too aggressive preflop? Did I protect too much after flop?

Was this too aggressive preflop? [/ QUOTE ] I don't play 6-max, but I think that just calling preflop is good. [ QUOTE ] Did I protect too much after flop? [/ QUOTE ] No, I think this is good. |

If I just call pre-flop, what is my play after the flop? Check with the intention of raising?

It would be very different because more people would've taken the flop. I think you gotta bet it out though.

Thats why I figure I have a better shot at the check raise. In addition, if a third flush card comes, I have less in the pot to lose (assuming I can get off the trips).

Re: 99 in SB hits trips - thoughts?
I do play 6max. 99 is a raising hand. I'd have bet about $6 on the flop. The thing is, big bets on the flop after a PFR are scary, and smaller bets look suspicious. I don't think you worry about protecting your hand against a draw until the turn, especially heads up at a 6max.
I think you played it fine; if there's no action to be had, you just take your $22 pot. A checkraise might be an option, but your hand becomes obvious once again. Anything he calls with after a checkraise, he will DEFINITELY call your flop bet on. All you do by checking in front is potentially give him a free card. And once again, checking a rag flop out of the SB after a preflop raise out of position looks suspicious as hell. |

Re: 99 in SB hits trips - thoughts?
Out of position, you pretty much have to bet out on the flop. A pot sized bet on the flop, and another pot-sized bet on the turn, barring a heart. If the turn pairs the board, stop-and-go; maybe check, or put in a small bet, then come out firing on the river.
All that being said, you gotta raise 99 in the SB at 6max. |
