50PL Am I Playing Scared?
My read was that I really didn't think he had a Q and my check on the river was to try and induce a bluff. A min-raise on the turn is a sign that he probably has the Q right?

Re: 50PL Am I Playing Scared?
Okay, maybe not playing scared but playing stupid? I'm very easily beaten here by any Q. Is it a hand I should just get away from when QQ shows on the flop?

Re: 50PL Am I Playing Scared?
I would say yes to stupid. A general rule of mine is that if takes only 1 card in your opponents hand to beat you, you should not be putting alot of money in.

Re: 50PL Am I Playing Scared?
You should bet this flop.
If he calls or raises then you should be done putting money in this pot unless you spike your set on the turn. |

Re: 50PL Am I Playing Scared?
Well if you're not dead on the flop then you're most certainly dead on the river.

Re: 50PL Am I Playing Scared?
In previous hands with this guy he seemed to call my raises and then fold to my bets on subsequent streets. I felt like by checking early made me seem weak and he saw this as a chance to finally push me out of a pot. Is my read just wrong? Should I not rely on it so much?

Re: 50PL Am I Playing Scared?
Maybe it's just because I felt like I had a read on him or something but I called his river all-in and he has A9s. Not even spades but hearts. My JJ is good but I gotta' wonder if I was just lucky here. I just "knew" he didn't have a Q. When the river came out a 3 I hardly even considered something like A3.

Re: 50PL Am I Playing Scared?
i dont know how everyone else feels, but i dont like to raise with JJ from this early. in my mind, if i'm likely to get 2 or more callers to any raise then JJ is just a midpair. You're going to see an overcard the vast majority of the time and these people are likely to play alot of hands with a Q, K or A even to a MP raise. Also, when they hit it they wont be scared of their kicker b/c they suck.
There is no such think as isolation at SSNL. IMO, the check isnt bad on the flop but you have to be prepared for the bluff. i would check/call b/c i typically think they will bet less than i would so i can keep the pot smaller that way. many players would play a set this way so there is some small level of deception too. also, if i bet he could raise and i wont know if he's making a move on me or not but it would be a big pot either way. |
