Default I hate 88

Such a weak hand.
No reads.

Pacific Poker 0.5/1 (10 players)

Hero is MP3 with 8 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], 8 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]
EP1 calls, EP2 raises , EP3 calls, 2 folds, Hero??

I'm getting 2.5 to 1 for this.
Worth a call?

You're getting 3.25:1 and I would fold. This is dependant on my reads on the players to act behind me. If they like coldcalling, I would consider calling.

Default 88 can be good

88 Can be okay at times, this was the best table i've seen in weeks, 4 or 5 total lunatics, btw i fold that one also.

Party Poker 0.5/1 Hold'em (10 handed) converter

Preflop: Hero is CO with 8[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], 8[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]. Hero posts a blind of $0.75.
1 fold, UTG+1 calls, 1 fold, MP1 calls, MP2 calls, MP3 calls, Hero (poster) checks, 1 fold, SB completes, BB checks.

Flop: (7.50 SB) 9[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], J[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], 8[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (7 players)
SB checks, BB checks, UTG+1 bets, MP1 raises, MP2 calls, MP3 calls, Hero 3-bets, SB folds, BB folds, UTG+1 calls, MP1 caps, MP2 calls, MP3 calls, Hero calls, UTG+1 calls.

Turn: (13.75 BB) A[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (5 players)
UTG+1 checks, MP1 checks, MP2 checks, MP3 checks, Hero bets, UTG+1 calls, MP1 calls, MP2 folds, MP3 calls.

River: (17.75 BB) 9[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (4 players)
UTG+1 checks, MP1 checks, MP3 bets, Hero raises, UTG+1 calls, MP1 calls, MP3 3-bets, Hero caps, UTG+1 folds, MP1 folds, MP3 calls.

Final Pot: 29.75 BB

Results in white below:
MP3 has 2c Qs (flush, ace high).
Hero has 8d 8h (full house, eights full of nines).
Outcome: Hero wins 29.75 BB.

I'd raise preflop in your hand in a heartbeat.

Folding is prudent with no reads. I sometimes 3-bet, but it's always with a read, knowing what my postflop plan is against said player.

One more caller (or coldcaller) and I call. As is, I fold.

Haha you always find some fundamental flaw in my hands man.

Question - Am I raising here because i have a preflop edge that needs pushing, or because it would tie people to the pot for when i hit my sets. Also how would raising affect the way I need to play post flop when I miss, I mean I can fold when i don't hit if i check here, but if i raise i assume I need to go hard after some favourable flops such as 1 overcard or perhaps even no overcards.

I would be interested in anything you have to say on this.

Regards Mack

All of the above to an extent, but you forgot the most important one: position.

Ahh, I never thought about including the SB and BB.
Thanks for the heads up.

I'm leaning towards fold.
Lee Jones said I should "Call... with a few players in".
