Equity Calculation...did I screw this one up?
An interesting hand from a $22 SNG that I won today...
Status Hero (3850) in big blind (400) Bad guy (1000) under the gun Random 1 (2560) on button Random 2 (590) in small blind (200) Hero is dealt 3[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]2[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]. Bad guy raises to 800. Randoms 1 and 2 fold. Ok, here's the interesting part. 1) Pot is 1400 (blinds + 800). It's 400 for me to call. I figure I'm getting > 3:1 here. 2) I do the following math: 50% chance of overpair (= 5:1 against = 8% equity) 50% chance of overcards (= 5:3 against = 19% equity) 0% chance of bluff (any bluff is better than my two cards) That's 27%. I'm getting over 3:1 on odds of less than 3:1. I raise 800 to put him all in. Flop comes: Q[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]A[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]3[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] Turn comes: 3[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] River comes: Q[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] Hero wins when bad guy shows K[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]J[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]. Hero subsequently gets berated by bad guy for the "horrible" call. Was this such a bad call? In my mind its a call that a) leaves me no worse than 400 chips behind the leader b) is in the money based on conservative preflop estimation (50% pair vs. 50% non-pair) and c) eliminates a jackass who uses a pro's name in his/her party alias. What do you all think? Was I crazy? Am I misreading Harrington on Hold'em? Thanks, Mike |

Re: Equity Calculation...did I screw this one up?
Actually, looking at my own post, seems like Bad guy could have kept me out of this hand by going all in. 600 to call on a 1600 pot is less than what I'd need.
What a clown. |
