At around 8xbb, I don't like limping with mid pairs hoping to hit a set. Either push preflop or fold. 88 is going to be dominated or a coin flip to anything that calls you so if you think it's likely you'll be called then I'd lean towards folding and looking for a better spot.
If you're thinking that you should have called after the raises preflop because you would have won the pot, you're being results oriented and trying to justify a bad call to yourself. You were dominated preflop by two players and your stack size isn't so desperate that you should call. |

Calling is terrible, but given your position, I don't mind a push here.
It's tough to put the chip leader on anything other than a steal, and the second guy is so short-stacked, he could be making this play this with a lone ace. Here's a chance to very nearly triple up, and you are (probably, though not actually) the happy side of a coin-flip. |
