99 heads up-river play
Party Poker 3/6 Hold'em (10 handed) converter
Villain is 70/4 in 50 hands. He appeared, though, to be fairly aggressive. PF, Flop and Turn, I think, are standard. How play you the river? Preflop: Hero is CO with 9[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], 9[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]. 4 folds, MP2 (villain) calls, 1 fold, Hero raises, 3 folds, MP2 (villain) calls. Flop: (5.33 SB) 8[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], T[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], J[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (2 players) villain bets, Hero raises, villain calls. Turn: (4.66 BB) A[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (2 players) villain checks, Hero bets, villain calls. clearly checks. you are behind. [/ QUOTE ] Either this is just a misreading of the board, or you see a lot more in that flop and turn action than I do. It's that clear that villain has a king? I can see KQ through KT, being possibilities, but villain having an unimproved jack, or even two pair or a set seems more likely. I agree with Captzeebo, bet and call a raise. |

clearly checks. you are behind. [/ QUOTE ] Huh? What makes you think he's behind? You have the second nut here and position. Given that he checked, he probably doesn't have the K. Most players would just bet that hand, rather than going for a check-raise since the straight possibility is so obvious. |

Re: 99 heads up-river play
Villain is 70/4 in 50 hands
This doesn't mean too much for the purpose of the question you asked. What is more important is what his AF is. How likely is it that he is going to check-raise? If he never check-raises, it's the easiest bet ever. If he sometimes checkraises, it's merely a super-easy bet. EDIT - I realize most 70/4 players will have a low AF, but sometimes you'll come across a player who is loose-passive preflop and tricky-aggressive postflop. |

Re: 99 heads up-river play
c/r stat is wholely irrelevant due to sample size. i saw this more as a read on aggressivity.
in any event, it's obvous derek just mis-read the post. as anticipated, the river went bet and call the raise. villain shows K8o and MHING. simply, the occasional pitfalls of value betting. i will not discontinue the practice, though. i attribute a great deal of my personal success, so far, to SSHE's principle of value betting. |

My bad, I misread and did not see the str8. Bet it out.

Re: 99 heads up-river play
I would consider checking this turn.
Are you ahead enough on this board to make this a value bet? I'd say it's 50/50. Does giving villian a free card hurt you? No. Could you get checkraised on this scary board? Yes. And you must call. Would villian bluff on the river if you checked the turn? It is highly likely. |
