FLOPPED trips against likely STRAIGHT ???

Whilst playing B&M (PL)i accumulated a decent chip stack of around 9000 when blinds where 800 and average chip stack was 5000 and chip leader was at 14000. I land QQ on button, two flat calls before i raise 3000, SB folds, BB calls, other two fold flop comes 9JQ rainbow, i raise 1000, BB re raises me 4500 more, I pause this person is new to my table so no real read, i thus call, she shows K10 for S8 and the turn and river are no help and i go out. Was i correct to call in first place? If i had a 90% feeling she had s8 should i have still called as my hand has nut outs and her hand is unlikely to improve?

I assume you mean you flopped a 'set', not 'trips'. Two very different things.

As far as the call goes, yeah, it's one I make and then get all upset for 'someone' calling my raise with a K-freakin'-10.

One of those things, but I'm not going to put the dude on K-10 just because he raises. Could've had A-Q, set of Jacks, set of 9s ... yeah, I'm def. calling and then crying.

What can you do? BB never should have called your bet preflop. Post flop you have to call because there are too many other hands that she could play the same way that you're ahead of. FWIW the blinds are so high relative to everyones stack that its really a craps shoot from here on out anyway. Was this a speed tourney?

oh, if you never folded a flopped set in a tounament, you would likely never be making a mistake.

really? twice in my relatively short life I've folded sets. both times I've been right. Granted I had slightly more than 11 BBs when I did it.

Thanks for replies on this all welcome, general concensus is i was damn unlucky really and made the correct call, she could have been playing any number of hands just happened to be only one ahead of me at that stage, and i never drew out, bet she won up, she was 3 of 7 when i left. It wasn't a speed tourny just a local casino PL comp. any ones elses views will be more than appreciated thanks again

Well, let's see. You are about 35% to win (7 outs on the turn and 10 on the river, plus some split outs), and you have to put 4500 into a pot of 13500. Pot odds-wise, it's an easy call. Also, I think your 90% certainty that she has the straight is too high, she could probably play 99, JJ and possibly even JQ or AA this way.

On the other hand, if you think you are a better player than most of the field, you might want to fold and wait for better odds. I wouldn't.
