Poker Craze Collides With State Laws

I like the last statement

[Texas Hold Em] "It's the soup of the day. It's very popular," said Frank Ball, director of Minnesota's Alcohol and Gambling Enforcement Division. But, he said, "It's not gin rummy. It's not 500. It's not hearts. Those are all games of skill. This is a random game, and it's a gamble."

I think 2+2ers may disagree

I would like to introduce this man to Dan Harrington, and then have him repeat his statement and back it up with reasoning. I somehow doubt he would win that argument.

It's just a function of our democracy. We rarely let someone who actually knows what he's talking about be in charge of anything important.

Frankly I'd take his statement to court and note that if he's not going to consider card games of skill as "gambling", then he can't consider poker as "gambling". If he thinks there's less skill in poker than there is in gin or hearts, he's out of his mind. And I'd gamble that would be an easy point to prove.

Maybe if he had been comparing poker to chess, or even bridge...

So I guess if someone busts your game, you can claim you were playing hearts?

I need to find 9 more just like this guy for a "special" homegame, that nobody else is invited to.
