Default Add-ons

My cousin and I are looking to host a home tournament that is a WSOP Satellite tourney for one of the smaller events. We're looking at like 25 people at a $100 each - winner gets $2,500 for an entry to the 2K event plus $500 for expenses. As we were talking, I got the idea of doing add-ons and rebuys something we've never done for our monthly 30 person tourneys) so that we might be able to give out one or two $1000 payouts for a 1k tourney. I'm thinking 1 add-on and then the re-buy...but many people might complain about "having" to spend $200 to play. I guess my question is, can you do 2 different re-buy options? $50 gets you a certain amount of chips - $100 gets you twice as many? Also, what is the typical add-on chip amount? Do you get the starting number of chips? Is it half the starting amount?

Please help...I've never played / hosted a re-buy event.

The rebuy event I played in last year was a $20 entry. Start with 1000T chips. Rebuys were $20 for 500T chips, $10 for 200T chips. You could only rebuy if you were under 1000T chips and did not bust out on a hand. If you busted out the rebuy was $20 for 50T chips, then you could rebuy again. There was also an ad-on at the end of the rebuy period which was $20 for 1000T chips. You could add-on no matter what your chip count was.

Good Luck

There are about as many ways to do this as there are ways to make dinner.

I've played in a WPT satellite and the format was roughly this (not sure I've got the amounts quite right, but the idea is pretty much accurate):

- Original buyin was $50 + $15 fee (obviously you can't charge the fee and stay legal). Got you x chips, call it 1000 although I'm not sure that was the exact number.

- You can rebuy any time you're below the starting amount for the first four 30-minute levels. $50 gets you 1000.

- At the end of the fourth level, there is an optional buyin. $50 gets you 1500 chips. If you finish the fourth level below the starting stack, you have the option of rebuying and THEN adding on.

The reason the rebuy is higher than the starting stack is that as the tourney progresses, there is less incentive to rebuy the starting amount of chips because the average chip stack is higher. So to make the rebuy a more attractive option is must be somewhat more chips.

There are other ways to handle this. The first is to do what is called a "progressive stack" rebuy, which means that the number of chips you rebuy goes up as the tourney goes on. Say, if you rebuy during the first level it buys you 1000, during the second level it's 1250, during the third level 1500, and fourth level rebuys get 1750 or something like that.

It's a very touchy-feely topic because there are so many ways you can do it. I would suggest sticking close to a tourney you would find at a casino that has close to the number of people you'll be having and close to your buyin stakes.
