Default Please help! NE -3 but +110 at sportsbook

I dont get it. There is no moneyline just a -3 (+110) bet on NE next week. I mean, how can they be -3 and +110. Also, why do I bet 10 to win 11 when I am betting -3 which is the spread???

It's only Monday, shop around if you need to put your bet in now, I'm sure things will change soon.

Sportsbooks don't move a line off the three unless they absolutely have to. If they open a three point line and almost all the money goes on the dog, by switching the line to 2.5 they would be taking a huge risk that everyone will jump on the favorite -2.5 and then in the quite common event that the game's margin is exactly three points they would lose loads of money. Instead, they just shade the odds to get some money down on the favorite, and eliminate the high risk of a one-sided payout on a number that is very likely to be a final margin (known as a "key number").

BTW you can get better odds than +110 on NE -3. Pinnacle has NE -3 at +114.

My question is even more rudimentary. I don't understand how you can bet -3 at +110. -3 is a favorite spread, +110 is an underdog line??? Is this because they are afraid of too much betting on the dog?

The +110 just means you are getting better than 1-1 odds on your bet. It can be associated with a fav or an underdog, or even an over under.

They opened at -3, a key number.

They are getting more action on Pitt.

They don't want to move the number off of three because it is key, so they adjust the money that one can win playing NE -3 instead of moving the line. This might encourage more people to play NE -3.

You should see that to play Pitt at +3 the line is probably -130.

The Pats are the favorite. But to understand what the books are saying, think about it this way.

What's the chance the Pats will win by more than 20?

Hopefully you think that's a lot less than 50%. In other words, the Pats, while the favorite in the game, are a big underdog TO WIN BY MORE THAN 20 POINTS.

All the books are saying is that the Pats are slight underdogs to win by more than 3.

I got NE at -2 (-119) while the NE/IND game was still going on.

Haven't consulted SSB or any other tables yet and I don't know any of that stuff on my own but I'm assuming that since it's a key number I'm much better off at -2 (-119) then I would be at -3 (+110).

Doesn't really matter too much....since I can't change it now anyway.
